Brief 1: Christian Louboutin Exhibition

Another not so recent design exhibition that I attended was the Christian Louboutin exhibition at the Design Museum in London. It was curated beautifully, celebrating the designer's work in a very fun, original and engaging manner. The signature red sole was a motif that was used throughout the exhibition in a series of ways, most obviously noticed in the use of red carpet, which also related to the designer's A list clientele. They made excellent use of the smaller space, with partitions separating some of the more, ehem, x rated displays, as well as inventively designed shoe stands that reflected the designer's love of glamour.

I love the use of type throughout the exhibition design, including these glittering, eye catching light up letters, as well as the hand rendered type that is also used very successfully.

It's basically unashamedly feminine, like a mad fashion fantasy, which is obviously appropriate for the designer's adoring audience. However, because of this fantasy style curation, it means that it becomes more engaging and accessible to a wider audience of fashion lovers, not just those who could afford his designs.

There are so many different but cohesive design components, this has given me a better idea of the amount of work I need to undertake for my Polka Dot fashion exhibition.
