Brief 5: Final Photographs
Final images from the Amass photoshoot. We wanted to place images in the context of travel, and so we arranged the packaging around items of travel clothing and accessories, such as sandals and sunglasses.

Brief 5: The Printed Packaging
We have now printed the labels and the luggage tags out. The patterns have been printed at home digitally onto a white silky stock, whilst the luggage tags were screen printed onto textured stock to achieve a foiled effect that adds luxury to the packaging.

Brief 5: Further Label Development
After having a think more about the design of the labels and the packaging in general, we decided firstly that the patterns should be printed onto a white stock and made smaller so that they wrap around the bottles more easily. As our brand is supposed to be inspired by travel, we also decided that it would be more appropriate for the labels to be designed as luggage tags as they relate far more successfully to the brand's ethos. We want to print two labels and attach them together, one for the logo mark and one for the actual information. We have tried to design it in a similar style to a proper luggage tag, using references such as the destination/origin of the product. We are going to screen print the labels gold onto a textured stock for a more luxurious feel that makes the packaging seem more desirable.

Brief 5: Printed Labels
Today we went down to James to see how the labels I had designed would look when printed. Unfortunately when printing onto the clear vinyl and attempting to apply it to the bottles we have purchased, the size of the labels is slightly too big and ruches quite obviously, making the packaging look messy. We also felt that the label designs looked strange on clear vinyl and would look better developed further.

Brief 5: Label Design Idea
After a bit of procrastination on this brief, I decided to get back into it today before a meeting with Emma tomorrow. I decided to experiment with the label designs based on an idea we'd already had where the label would be designed to work off centre.
(Something like this)
I have tried to include the most important information usually seen on front labels, as well as a little copy describing the benefits of each botanical element: for example Bergamot and Fig is warming, uplifting and hydrating. I've also included what the stamps would like when accompanying the label. I think they're a necessary addition, as without them the labels look a little bare, and it adds a little informality/spontaneity to the designs which it think works with the idea of a travel based brand.

Brief 5: Bottles Purchased
These are the bottles we have purchased from naturallythinking.com. We have gone with clear plastic, as we feel these give us the most scope for creating interesting and colourful labels. We have gone for a range of sizes as we are producing a range of products that require different sizes, for example body serum would go into a smaller bottle because it is more concentrated. We feel that the shapes of some of the bottles are a little unusual, which we like as we feel it would distinguish us from other brands.

Brief 5: Logo Ideas
Myself and Emma discussed the idea of the Amass logo linking to our theme of travel and discovery/collecting and so I wanted to work with imagery that relates to travel, including travel stamps and compasses.
Having worked with the idea of a compass, it felt a little too obvious, and so I started to look at the idea of transferring elements of compass illustrations into a typeface.
It's very early days, and I don't have half the illustrator skills that Emma does, but here are the drawings I have been working on.

Brief 5: Initial Discussion
Myself and Emma had a small meeting to discuss our collaborative brief. We have been talking about this brief since summer but timing has meant we can only embark on it from this week. We have already decided on our rationale, and in the next few weeks we will complete the packaging and the branding design for it.
After this meeting it was decided that I should work on ideas for the logo and also research into packaging designs that are suitable for our brief.
