Brief #8 New Idea

Another brainstorming session based on the themes in the book.

Blame
Fate
Shirley Eaton
Family ties
Family links
Godfrey
Irony
Yorkshire Moors
A series of events, a chain?
The Billiard Room
The film
The eyeball
Newspapers
Aircraft: begins and ends this way
Multi layered book
Knitting/unravelling

I was trying to find something important to the book that had a strong visual to accompany it, as well as being clever. This was more difficult than I thought it would be, because although there are a lot of strong images that could link to the book, they don't necessarily have a link to each character, for example the eyeball which only relates to one of the Winshaws.

I then realised that the most important part of the novel is the irony of the ending. Each of the Winshaws receive their comeuppance by the end of the story, in the same way that they have destroyed the lives of others. In this way, each of the characters ends up digging their own grave, and so I am now working with this imagery.
